Digital Strategist: understanding the role and earning potential

A Digital Strategist works within an organization to identify needs, objectives, and opportunities and coordinates all business-related departments and aspects. They then create and oversee the execution of a plan through specific initiatives to achieve the goals of the strategy.

The Digital Strategist will also assist teams in developing ideas to achieve the goals of the agency’s brand or client. In the last 15 years, there has been a significant change. The evolution of technology has greatly altered the communication model and the way of interacting with people.

The number of means to reach consumers has increased substantially. Therefore, small and large companies must develop marketing strategies to achieve the necessary business objectives.

Who are they and what do they do?

Specifically, I work in marketing and communication. Part of my time is also dedicated to activities falling under the umbrella of the Digital Strategist.

Situations in which we believe that the company we are dealing with needs to clear up doubts before investing in a specific activity or channel have priority. This represents a component, not the main focus, of my work.

What skills should a Digital Strategist have?

I believe there should be a mix of somewhat technical skills combined with a good dose of curiosity, allowing you to jump from one topic to another.

One of the added values, in my opinion, is the ability to understand and apply marketing theories read in books in different ways across various types of businesses.

The work of the professional Digital Strategist

 

Does the Digital Strategist handle various aspects personally or work with others? If they have a team, how do they manage it?

I personally handle the micro-consultations I described earlier. They aim to understand if Moca is indeed the answer. So, in the first instance, I act as an arbiter. We work in tandem. I don’t get involved much in the operational aspects. The Strategist designs the strategy and manages the various development steps.

What are the benefits for a company to have a Digital Strategist on its team?

The advantage of having someone who coordinates various suppliers in a company is fundamental. A person who brings together different roles is very important. When I see a Strategist in a company, it results in a more organized and pleasant atmosphere.

How important is it to have a diverse background to work in an agency?

I believe it is. It’s very important, and that’s my point of view. In some situations, having a diverse background can indeed be a competitive advantage. At least for how we are structured, an agency is something that really makes you jump from one thing to another.

My own colleagues work on very different projects, so having a diverse background helps you. Being able to readapt, taking different forms while still staying true to your identity, I think, can represent an advantage. Having a diverse background allows you to take on different shapes depending on the context and be adaptable.

Conclusion

We have learned that Digital Strategists are the people who drive the machine, who play the charge, and who have a natural aptitude for problem-solving. They contribute to connecting various needs, and customer desires, and achieving business objectives.

They must think outside the box and try marketing strategies never attempted before. After years of direct mail advertising and print catalogs, companies already have a good understanding of what works best for print ads. When it comes to technology, it is up to the Digital Strategist to pave the way for greater profits.
